The Clinic's History

Founded in 1905 by Dr Henri Auguste Widmer, a doctor open to the most innovative practices and a great art enthusiast, in its early days Clinique Valmont treated diseases resulting from digestive and nutrition disorders and neurasthenia.
It met with immediate, resounding success due to a skilful combination of the appeal of the countryside, a worthy welcome from the best of the Swiss hospitality and innovative treatments such as diets, electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, heliotherapy and air baths.
An international clientele of artists and politicians including Léon Blum, Rainer Maria Rilke, Giovanni Giacometti and the Belgian royal family attended the clinic.
Despite the First World War, the clinic enjoyed success for 20 years and then went on to experience periods of revival and disgrace. In the meantime, its visitor book acquired some famous names such as Claudia Cardinal, Marcel Pagnol, Louis Aragon, Coco Chanel, Placido Domingo …
In the 1980s, Valmont became the first Swiss clinic entirely dedicated to aesthetics before refocusing on rehabilitation in 1993.
Today, Clinique Valmont devotes itself solely to orthopaedic and neurological rehabilitation.
